Police Investigate Ogidi Food Poisoning Incident, 4 Siblings Dead

The Anambra State Police Command has initiated an investigation into the tragic incident resulting in the deaths of four siblings, allegedly due to food poisoning, which occurred on May 6, 2025, in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.

According to an official statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command in Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, upon receiving notification of the incident, officers from Ogidi Division promptly responded to the scene, retrieved the bodies of the deceased siblings, and facilitated their transportation to the morgue for post-mortem examination. The mother of the victims is currently hospitalized in critical condition, undergoing treatment for suspected food poisoning.

As part of the preliminary investigation, the police have collected samples of the suspected food, which have been submitted for forensic analysis to determine the exact cause of the incident. Furthermore, officers are conducting interviews with local residents and potential witnesses to gather relevant information that may aid in understanding the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, conveyed deep regret and sorrow over the tragic occurrence, and the Command tendered its sincerest condolences to the bereaved family, wishing the mother a speedy recovery and acknowledging the importance of her testimony in shedding light on the incident's circumstances.

 The Command is committed to conducting a thorough and transparent investigation into the tragic incident and will provide regular updates to the public as the investigation progresses.
