Anambra Police CP Reviews 2025 Achievements, Deploys for Festive Security

The Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has briefed the press on the Command's notable security achievements in 2025, attributing successes to proactive policing, intelligence-led operations, and collaboration with the public.
According to CP Orutugu, the Command has achieved significant reductions in violent crimes, including cultism, armed robbery, and kidnappings, through improved response times, increased visibility patrols, and strengthened community partnerships. Key accomplishments include disrupting kidnapping syndicates, raiding criminal hideouts, and enhancing inter-agency cooperation.
He further noted that collaborative efforts with other security agencies have resulted in the rescue of 35 kidnapping victims, the arrest of over 300 suspects involved in serious crimes, and the recovery of more than 2,000 arms, ammunition, explosives, and 60 stolen vehicles. Notable arrests include suspects involved in the murder of Hon. Justice Azuka and three Cameroonian nationals.
According to the Commissioner, the Command's initiatives have contributed to the successful execution of major events, including the President's state visit and elections, and have facilitated the restoration of normalcy in Ihiala. CP Orutugu recognized the challenges arising from evolving criminal tactics and instances of public non-cooperation, but provided assurance that the Command is developing and implementing improved strategies to address these concerns.
In preparation for the festive season the Command has also implemented comprehensive security measures and urged residents to exercise vigilance, report suspicious activities, and comply with traffic regulations. The public is also advised to ensure the security of their homes and utilize official motor parks.
CP Orutugu thanked the Anambra State Government, security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, town unions, vigilantes, media, and residents for their support and cooperation including renovations to stations like RRS Awkuzu and Ogidi Division. The Command reaffirmed its commitment to a safer Anambra in 2026.
