Fr. Obimma Stresses Power of Prayer, Warns Against Staged Miracles

The Parish Priest of Blessed Iwene Tansi Parish, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, has underscored the indispensable role of prayer and divine intervention in achieving true success, cautioning against excessive self-reliance and the growing trend of staged miracles among some religious leaders.
Fr. Obimma made this assertion in his office while receiving members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ), Anambra State Chapter, during a courtesy visit. He noted that certain levels of accomplishment can only be attained through divine assistance, emphasizing that prayer remains central to human existence and spiritual growth.
In his words, “There are heights one cannot reach without divine intervention. That is the essence of prayer. If one can accomplish everything independently, then there would be no need for God".
The cleric further highlighted the parish’s annual 90-day prayer programme, which is dedicated to seeking God’s guidance, particularly in relation to leadership and societal progress. He disclosed that the initiative has recorded numerous testimonies since its inception, drawing a parallel with the 40 days of prayer undertaken by Jesus Christ before the commencement of His ministry.
Fr. Obimma also admonished believers to remain spiritually vigilant against unseen forces, citing scriptural teachings on the battle against powers and principalities. He described prayer as a profound spiritual encounter that facilitates destiny fulfillment, liberation, and a deeper connection with divine authority.
Addressing concerns about the authenticity of miracles, the priest criticized the practice of orchestrated signs and wonders, stressing that genuine miracles are products of divine action rather than human manipulation. He maintained that a life of sacrifice and spiritual discipline naturally attracts God’s power, lamenting what he described as a decline in the zeal for prayer and sacrifice among some religious leaders.
The parish priest further revealed his personal spiritual commitments, including plans to undertake a 30-day fast without food in early July, noting that personal discipline is essential for effective spiritual impact. He reiterated that spiritual matters are divinely guided and not subject to human control or fabrication.
Rather than advocating punitive measures against erring clerics, Fr. Obimma called for repentance and a return to sincere devotion. He also commended the Catholic Church for its emphasis on authenticity, which he said continues to attract large congregations, particularly during Sunday Masses and special prayer programmes.
He concluded by urging all faithful, irrespective of denominational differences, to embrace the message of Christ and allow Him to guide their lives.
