The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reaffirmed the Inspector-General of Police's zero-tolerance policy on indiscipline, corruption, extortion and abuse of office, warning that any officer found engaging in acts capable of bringing the Nigeria Police Force into disrepute will face appropriate sanctions.
CP Orutugu gave the warning on June 30 during a security conference with the command's management team held at the Police Command Headquarters in Awka. The meeting was attended by eight Area Commanders, tactical commanders, 56 Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), Divisional Crime Officers and other senior officers.
Addressing the participants, the commissioner reiterated the IGP's directive against all forms of misconduct, stressing that discipline and professionalism must remain the hallmark of policing.
"I also wish to re-echo the IGP's directives against any form of indiscipline, corruption, extortion, abuse of office or any conduct capable of bringing the Force into disrepute," he said.
He urged officers to treat members of the public with courtesy, respect and professionalism, noting that public confidence remains one of the Police Force's most valuable operational assets and must be continuously earned and sustained.
CP Orutugu commended officers and men of the Command for their operational achievements despite prevailing security challenges, stating that the successes recorded have strengthened the command's resolve to meet the expectations of the Inspector-General of Police, the Anambra State Government and residents of the state.
He further charged officers to uphold the dignity of the police uniform, describing it as a symbol of honour, sacrifice and public trust. He reminded them that wearing the uniform comes with enormous responsibilities, calling on all personnel to remain disciplined, courageous and committed to their constitutional duties.
The commissioner encouraged for greater collaboration among all units of the command to consolidate recent gains and further improve policing standards across Anambra State.
