‎LP Candidates Seek Archbishop Ibezim’s Prayers, Counsel Ahead of 2027 Elections

‎By Chizoba Njaka

‎The Labour Party (LP) candidates for Anambra Central Senatorial District and Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue and Dr. Mary Obi Okoye, on June 23 paid a courtesy visit to the Archbishop of the Province of the Niger and Bishop of Awka, Most Rev. Alexander Ibezim, to seek prayers and guidance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

‎The candidates were received at the Bishop’s Court, Awka, where discussions centred on leadership, governance, and preparations for the forthcoming elections.

‎Speaking during the visit, Arch.  Ibezim commended Christians, particularly members of the clergy, who have ventured into politics. He described their involvement as a positive response to the desire for leaders guided by moral values and integrity, noting that such participation could contribute to national development and societal transformation.

‎Referring to the biblical teaching that “when the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice,” the Arch. emphasised the need for credible leadership and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to adequately sensitise and reorient their personnel to ensure free, fair, and credible elections in 2027.

‎He observed that many of the country's socio-economic challenges stem from poor leadership choices and urged citizens not to lose faith in the democratic process.

‎He encouraged eligible voters to participate actively by registering and obtaining their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). The Archbishop also offered prayers for the candidates and wished them success in their political aspirations.

‎Earlier, Ven. Ikezue expressed gratitude for emerging as the Labour Party’s candidate for Anambra Central Senatorial District and shared his experience leading to his emergence as the party’s flag bearer. He reiterated his commitment to service and good governance and presented the party's flag to the Archbishop.

‎The visit highlights the growing interaction between religious leaders and political stakeholders in promoting ethical leadership, civic responsibility, and electoral integrity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
