Police Arrest Parents After Lifeless Twin Infants Found Abandoned in Okpoko Drainage

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the abandonment and death of twin infants whose lifeless bodies were discovered in a drainage channel in Okpoko, describing the incident as a disturbing act of inhumanity and a grave violation of the right to life.
According to the Anambra State Police Command, operatives attached to the Okpoko Divisional Police Headquarters received a report in the early hours of June 21, regarding the discovery of two infant twins abandoned in a drainage along Cooperative Street, Nwokedi, Okpoko.
Upon receiving the report, police officers swiftly moved to the scene, secured the area, documented evidence, and commenced investigations into the tragic incident.
Preliminary findings led to the immediate arrest of the biological parents of the deceased infants. The suspects are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
CP Orutugu commended the operatives for their prompt response and professionalism, which facilitated the swift arrest of the suspects shortly after the incident was reported.
Expressing deep concern over the development, the commissioner stressed that every child is entitled to protection, care, and the opportunity to live. He reiterated the command's resolve to ensure that all those found responsible are brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The Police Command stated that investigations are ongoing and assured the public that further updates will be provided as the case progresses.
