NUJ Anambra Nominates Uche Kalu for Long-Term Professional Service Award

‎The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has nominated veteran journalist and media practitioner, Comrade Uche Kalu, for its Long-Term Professional Service Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to journalism and public service over the past four decades.


‎The nomination was conveyed in a letter dated July 5, 2026, and signed by the leadership of the NUJ Anambra State Council, Comrade Emeka Odogwu.


‎According to the letter, the award followed a rigorous selection process during which a panel carefully scrutinised several nominees from across the state before unanimously selecting Comrade Kalu.


‎The council stated that Comrade Kalu distinguished herself through exceptional service in the media industry, exemplary leadership within the NUJ, commitment to journalism, peace building, education and mentorship. It noted that her remarkable achievements and sterling qualities earned her the honour of being recognised as one of the state's outstanding media professionals.


‎The council further described the NUJ Anambra Long-Term Professional Service Award as a prestigious honour reserved for a select few journalists who have demonstrated excellence, dedication and professionalism throughout their careers.


‎The award presentation will take place during the grand finale of the 35th Anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council, and the 2026 Press Week and Man of the Year Award Ceremony, scheduled for September 10, 2026.


‎Responding to the honour, Comrade Kalu expressed profound appreciation, describing the recognition as a pleasant surprise. She said she never imagined her contributions to journalism had been so closely observed and appreciated, and thanked the NUJ for finding her worthy of the honour.


‎She noted that the recognition would serve as a source of motivation for journalists, stressing that diligence and dedication deserve to be acknowledged and rewarded. She also commended the NUJ for instituting the recognition initiative, describing it as a commendable step toward encouraging excellence in the profession.


‎Labour Party candidate for the Anambra Central Senatorial District, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue,  congratulated Comrade Kalu, who also serves as his Campaign Media Aide, on her well-deserved honour.


‎He described the recognition as a testament that the Holy Spirit orders the steps of His children, leading them to the right people at the right time. He added that the honour further confirms that the campaign team is blessed with some of the finest and most dedicated individuals.
