Anambra Police Tighten Monitoring of Checkpoints, Patrol Teams to Curb Extortion, Misconduct
By Chizoba Njaka
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has introduced a strategic monitoring mechanism through the Command’s Operational Control Rooms to strengthen supervision of police checkpoints, patrol teams and other operational activities across the state. The initiative, introduced on August 15, followed feedback received during the recent Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions held across the three Senatorial Districts.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the new mechanism is designed to promote effective policing, accountability and professionalism, while curbing extortion, harassment and other forms of abuse against members of the public by police personnel.
Under the arrangement, the Command’s Operational Control Rooms will maintain closer oversight of patrol formations and checkpoints. Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders will be required to account for the activities of personnel deployed to strategic locations.
Reports and complaints concerning misconduct, extortion or other forms of unprofessional conduct will also be promptly received, monitored and escalated for appropriate action.
CP Oji Ama stressed that although the command remains committed to providing effective security and protecting the lives and property of Ndi Anambra and residents, no police officer will be allowed to abuse the authority entrusted to them by the Nigeria Police Force to exploit members of the public.
The commissioner directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure strict compliance with the directive, warning that personnel found engaging in extortion or other forms of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures in line with the law and established regulations.
The command consequently urged Ndi Anambra and other members of the public to support the initiative by reporting incidents of extortion, harassment and other unprofessional conduct through its established communication channels.
Members of the public can contact the Operational Control Room on 07039194332, the Police Public Relations Officer on 08039334002, or the Commissioner of Police’s dedicated WhatsApp number on 09169531886.
The command reiterated its commitment to professional, people-oriented and accountable policing, assuring members of the public that credible complaints would receive prompt attention and appropriate action.
