ANSACA, NOA Partner to Intensify HIV Awareness and Curb Spread in Anambra
By Chizoba Njaka
The easiest way to curb the spread of HIV is through sustained awareness and sensitisation, as people who are properly informed about the implications of the virus are better positioned to make informed decisions and protect themselves from infection.
This formed part of the thrust of the proposed collaboration between the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, aimed at expanding HIV awareness, prevention education and community mobilisation across the state.
The partnership, explored during a courtesy visit by the NOA leadership to ANSACA on Aug. 24, seeks to leverage NOA’s extensive grassroots network to take accurate HIV information and prevention messages to communities, markets, schools, workplaces, religious institutions and other groups.
Through sustained sensitisation, the agencies hope to encourage regular HIV testing, promote prevention and treatment services, improve treatment adherence and reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
The collaboration is expected to strengthen community-based communication and ensure that residents have access to the knowledge and services needed to make informed choices and reduce their risk of HIV infection.
