Anambra CP to PG: Make Community Security a Top Priority
By Chizoba Njaka
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has urged Presidents-General of communities across the State to make the security, peace and welfare of their people a major priority in their leadership.
CP Oji Ama made the appeal on Sept. 4, when he received the Association of Presidents-General of Communities in Anambra State. The commissioner described Presidents-General as important stakeholders who occupy strategic positions within their communities, stressing that their support and cooperation were vital to the efforts of the Police and other security agencies to combat crime.
He called on the community leaders to promote peace, security and development while maintaining stronger working relationships with the Police by providing timely and reliable information that could help prevent and address criminal activities. According to him, maintaining security in the State requires the collective efforts of security agencies, traditional rulers, community leaders and residents.
He stressed that effective collaboration among these stakeholders would enhance the ability of security agencies to prevent and contain criminal activities. The commissioner also urged Presidents-General and other community stakeholders to remain alert, support legitimate security measures and promptly provide the Police with information on suspicious persons, movements and activities within their communities.
Responding, the President of the Association of Presidents-General of Communities, Chief Sir Vin Dike, thanked the commissioner for receiving the association and expressed their readiness to sustain cooperation and partnership with the Police Command.
Chief Dike assured that the Presidents-General, as key stakeholders in the state, would deploy their positions to discourage acts and activities capable of threatening peace and security in their respective communities.
The Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to deepening community policing and strengthening partnerships with community leaders and other stakeholders in its efforts to sustain peace and security across the State.
