ANSACA, Anyansi Family Bring Free HIV, Hepatitis, TB Screening To Abagana
By Chizoba Njaka
The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), in partnership with the Anyansi Family, has provided free HIV testing, hepatitis screening, tuberculosis (TB) screening and other preventive health services to residents of Abagana in Njikoka Local Government Area.
The two-day community health outreach, held on Sept. 11 and 12, at Amaenye Village Hall and the Abagana Welfare Union Secretariat, was aimed at improving access to essential healthcare services and promoting early detection and prevention of diseases within the community.
Residents who participated in the programme benefited from free HIV testing and counselling, hepatitis screening, TB symptom screening, blood pressure checks and health education.
Speaking on the initiative, the President General of Abagana Welfare Union, Hon. Sir Linus Okafor (Okunwa), described the outreach as a commendable intervention that would contribute to improving the health and wellbeing of residents.
Sir Okafor commended ANSACA and the Anyansi Family for bringing healthcare services directly to the community, particularly appreciating Mr. Nonso Anyansi for facilitating the intervention.
He also called on other individuals, families and organisations to support community-based health initiatives, noting that collective efforts were necessary to address healthcare needs at the grassroots.
Some beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the intervention, while also commending the administration of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for its efforts toward improving access to healthcare services across communities in Anambra State.
The outreach, according to ANSACA, forms part of its efforts to strengthen HIV prevention, testing, early detection, health education and linkage to care by taking essential services closer to residents across the state.
The agency stressed that government alone could not meet every healthcare need, noting that partnerships with families, communities, organisations and individuals remained vital to expanding the reach of public health interventions.
ANSACA urged residents to prioritise regular health screening and know their health status, stressing that prevention and early detection remain critical to saving lives.
