‎The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Anambra State Ministry of Environment to strengthen Healthy Workplace Compliance and promote safer, healthier and more productive workplaces across the state.
‎
‎The partnership is aimed at integrating workplace health interventions with environmental compliance, ensuring that disease prevention, health education, screening, early detection and appropriate referral services are brought closer to workers in different sectors.
‎
‎Under the agreement, the Healthy Workplace Compliance programme will progressively extend to eating joints and food vendors operating within markets, standalone restaurants and bukas, abattoirs and slaughter slabs, hotels, barbing salons, spas, hairdressing salons and other workplaces across the state.
‎
‎Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Executive Director/Project Manager of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, described the MOU as a significant milestone in the state government's efforts to promote healthy and productive workplaces.
‎
‎Dr. Okeke explained that the partnership would strengthen workplace health education and screening for conditions such as HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis, while ensuring that persons requiring further attention are appropriately referred for care.
‎
‎He commended the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for providing the leadership and enabling environment for initiatives aimed at improving the health, safety and productivity of workers in the state.
‎
‎The ANSACA boss also appreciated the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, as well as the management and staff of the Ministry of Environment and the ANSACA team for their commitment to the successful implementation of the partnership.
‎
‎On his part, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, stressed the need for stronger collaboration between environmental and public health authorities, noting that the combination of their expertise would help improve workplace standards and create healthier environments for workers and members of the public.
‎
‎The MOU represents another step in ANSACA's efforts to take HIV prevention, testing, health education and integrated screening services closer to people at their workplaces, while contributing to the Anambra State Government's vision of a healthier and more productive population.
