ICPC to Organize Stakeholders' Meeting to Promote Transparency in Local Governments

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) is organizing a stakeholders' meeting to enhance accountability and prevent corruption in local governments across Nigeria. This initiative, announced by ICPC's Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, Demola Bakare, aims to promote good governance, accountability, and transparency at the local level.
The meeting, scheduled for Thursday, April 3, 2025, at the Shehu Yar'Adua Centre in Abuja, will facilitate dialogue among key stakeholders and leaders in local governance and is particularly significant in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling upholding the financial autonomy of local governments in Nigeria.
The program seeks to address challenges impeding effective local governance and introduce the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Promotion Programme in Local Governments (ACPP-LG) and to eradicate financial leakages, combat corrupt practices, ensure adherence to governance standards, and promote efficient, corruption-free service delivery.
Meanwhile, the primary objective of the ACPP-LG is to restore public confidence in local governance by fortifying accountability mechanisms and enhancing transparency which underscores the ICPC's sustained dedication to promoting ethical governance, accountability, and transparency within local government administrations.
