Police Nab Kidnapping Suspect Linked to Murder of Police Woman

Police raided a criminal hideout in Ukpor, arresting one suspect who subsequently confessed to involvement in enforcing illegal sit-at-home orders and participating in the 2022 murder of a policewoman in Ukpor.
As stated in a statement issued by the Police Public Relations officer, Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives from the Rapid Response Squad/Anti-Kidnapping unit, acting on credible intelligence, successfully dismantled a criminal camp in Ukpor and arrested Ewulu Chikwo, a 35-year-old suspect from Osumoghu Isieke Village, Ihiala Local Government Area.
It was further disclosed that the suspect and his accomplices had allegedly planned to enforce an unauthorized sit-at-home directive in the area on the subsequent Monday.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and admitted involvement in the 2022 attack on the Ukpor Divisional Police Headquarters, where a policewoman, Inspector Stella Maris, was tragically murdered.
In response, the Joint Security Forces have heightened their patrol presence in the area while the State Police Command has pledged to take prompt action on any security-related information, with a particular focus on apprehending other gang members active in the region.
