ICPC Chair Highlights Mentorship, Hard Work, and Destiny as Keys to Success in Law

The ICPC Chairman, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, identified mentorship, hard work, and destiny as key factors contributing to sustained success in the legal profession.
Dr. Aliyu, made this assertion during a panel session at a seminar and welcome programme organized by the Mentorship Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Abuja on Monday.
Speaking on the theme "Life After Call-Finding Your Path," he emphasized the importance of mentorship, hard work, and destiny in shaping the careers of young lawyers.
The ICPC boss identified mentorship, hard work, and destiny as crucial factors for success in the legal profession, drawing on his own experiences as a testament to the impact of these elements. He shared his career journey, highlighting the role of mentors in shaping his professional path.
In sharing his early experiences as a young lawyer, Dr. Aliyu emphasized the value of commitment and diligence in completing tasks assigned by his superiors. He revealed that his 15-year apprenticeship under four senior lawyers was instrumental in shaping his career, culminating in his appointment as Attorney General of Jigawa State in 2019.
In his keynote address, Chief Kanu Godwin Agabi, SAN, a two-time Attorney General of the Federation and Honorable Minister of Justice, emphasized the importance of integrity and truthfulness in the legal profession. He urged young lawyers to approach their profession with a steadfast commitment to upholding the truth at all times.
Chief Agabi, highlighted the imperative for lawyers to uphold truthfulness in their professional practice, stating, "Time has come that lawyers must begin to speak the truth in practising their profession." He further advised young lawyers to approach their cases with passion and dedication, saying, "When you defend, do so with all the passion in you.
Chief Agabi also cautioned the young lawyers against repeating the mistakes of some experienced lawyers, warning them that their actions would have consequences, as they would reap what they sow in abundance.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the NBA Mentorship Committee, Dr. Olukayode Ajulo, expressed gratitude to the distinguished legal professionals in attendance, noting that they served as inspirations to the young lawyers.
Dr. Ajulo pointed out the responsibility of experienced lawyers, to mentor and guide aspiring young professionals, stating, "It is the sacred responsibility of the experienced to guide the aspiring new wigs and young lawyers." The event is part of the NBA's efforts to nurture and provide professional guidance to newly called lawyers.
