Anambra State Government Denies Plans for Second Airport

The Anambra State Government has formally refuted allegations regarding the proposed construction of a second airport at Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, formally announced in a press release issued in Awka that the reports in question lack any factual basis and are purely speculative in nature. In his words, the government wishes to categorically state that such reports are unfounded and speculative, thereby reassuring the public of the accuracy of official announcements.
Dr. Mefor detailed that the speculation seemingly emanated from a recent visit to the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC), wherein certain parties inferred that the industrial park would require a dedicated airport. However, the government would like to clarify that the visit was undertaken to commence technical feasibility studies for multimodal transportation systems, encompassing railways and airports, as a crucial element of the AMIC master plan.
According to Dr. Mefor, the AMIC master plan is conceived to promote industrialization and sustainable development through the establishment of: A 4,000-hectare industrial city, functioning as a catalyst for industrial growth and economic expansion; A dedicated hub for pharmaceutical research, development, and production; A comprehensive array of amenities, including innovation centers, educational and healthcare facilities, tourism infrastructure, commercial districts, and residential clusters.
The State Government took the opportunity to formally assure the public that no final decision has been reached regarding the construction of a railway or airport in conjunction with the Anambra Mixed-use Industrial City (AMIC), and undertakes to communicate any future determinations through established official channels.
Dr. Mefor further advised the public to dismiss the unsubstantiated report and instead rely on official announcements and notifications regarding major projects and developments within the state.
