‎Anambra Government Denies Plot to Arrest Catholic Bishops, Priests

‎The Anambra State Government has vehemently denied allegations that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo plans to arrest and jail Catholic bishops and priests after his reelection.

‎In a press release issued to journalists in Awka, the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor, categorically refuted the allegations, describing them as "completely unfounded, lacking in factual basis, and intentionally misleading".

‎Dr. Mefor emphasized that the government remains committed to upholding the rights and freedoms of all citizens, including those of religious leaders, and advised the public to exercise caution and require substantiated evidence before accepting or disseminating sensitive information, as the claims appear to be an orchestrated attempt by opposition elements to destabilize the peace.

‎According to him, government remains resolute in its determination to address the proliferation of unqualified persons claiming to possess spiritual or traditional healing powers, and to protect citizens from exploitation adding that governor Soludo's administration will continue to work tirelessly to identify and prosecute such individuals as well as partner with the Federal Government to crack down on certificate forgery, ensuring that those involved are brought to justice.
