IPC Hosts Forum on Enhanced Reportage and Inclusivity for Anambra Governorship Election

The International Press Centre (IPC), in collaboration with the Centre for Media and Society (CEMESO), and with support from the European Union's EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN II) programme, recently hosted a two-day forum on enhanced reportage, inclusivity, and accountability of stakeholders towards the Anambra governorship poll.
Held at DON Hotel, Awka, the forum brought together representatives from the media, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and civic actors, nominated by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), and Association of Photographers (AOP), Anambra State Chapter.
The forum aimed to promote a peaceful and credible electoral process by strengthening professional capacity, promoting ethical and inclusive electoral coverage, and enhancing multi-stakeholder collaboration.
Key highlights of the forum included technical and interactive discussions on:Strengthening journalistic capacity for ethical and inclusive election reporting, integrating Countering Violent Extremism perspectives into media practice, enhancing coordination and information sharing between the media and key stakeholders as well as identifying and mitigating professional, ethical, and safety risks faced by journalists during election coverage.
The initiative underscores the importance of promoting credible, transparent, and peaceful elections in Anambra State, ahead of the governorship election scheduled for November 8, 2025.
