Unforeseen Circumstances: NUJ Suspends Guber Debate

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, announces the postponement of the scheduled debates for deputy governor and governorship candidates, previously set for October 8 and 15, 2025, respectively. This decision was necessitated by unforeseen circumstances.
According to a press release signed by Comrade Okechukwu Onuegbu, Secretary of the Council, despite the NUJ's efforts to ensure equitable delivery of invitation letters to all candidates on September 16, 2025, some candidates expressed concerns regarding late receipt. The NUJ attributed the delay to the candidates' aides, who reportedly failed to collect the letters in a timely manner.
The NUJ reaffirms its commitment to upholding the principles of fairness, equity, and justice in the electoral process. The Council urges all candidates to demonstrate good sportsmanship before, during, and after the election.
The postponement has elicited disappointment from candidates and the general public. The NUJ assures stakeholders that new dates and a venue for the debate will be announced soon. The Council appeals to candidates and supporters to eschew scheming and focus on fair play, ensuring a peaceful and credible election process.
This development occurs amidst heightened anticipation for the November 8 gubernatorial election, with notable candidates including Charles Soludo (APGA), Andy Uba (APC), and Valentine Ozigbo (PDP) campaigning across the state. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to ensure a transparent and impartial process.
