Anambra CP Emphasizes Community-Police Partnership for Effective Policing

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the importance of community-police partnership as a cornerstone of effective policing and security in the state.
Speaking through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, at a roundtable titled “The Nigerian Police and the Challenges of Policing at the Sub-National Level: Is State Police a Viable Option?” held at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, CP Orutugu highlighted that policing is a shared duty requiring cooperation between the Police and the public.
The roundtable was organized by the Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies in collaboration with the Society for Peace Studies and Practice (SPSP). It attracted key stakeholders including Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Chiobi (Rtd), security adviser to the state governor, His Royal Highness Igwe P.O. Omachonu, Prof Amaka Joe-Iguh, Academics, Civil Society Representatives, and Media. The discussion focused on refining policing policies and practices at sub-national levels.
CP Orutugu emphasized that trust, collaboration, and active community participation are vital to achieving sustainable peace and safety in Anambra State. He encouraged residents to be more engaged and cooperative with police efforts to enhance security service delivery.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the command’s dedication to strengthening community policing partnerships and building a more robust security system for the state, consistent with his broader strategy of inclusive policing and proactive crime prevention since assuming office in early 2025.
