Anambra Police Command Issues Security Advisory For Ember Months

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a security advisory to residents, visitors, business owners, and road users, highlighting the need for increased vigilance during the ember months.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the period from September to December is characterized by increased mobility of individuals and commodities, which is often accompanied by a rise in criminal activities.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reiterated the Command's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all individuals in the state during this period. CP Orutugu noted, police operatives have intensified patrols, visibility policing, stop-and-search operations, and intelligence-driven raids targeting criminal hideouts.
The Command urged the public to remain alert and aware of their surroundings, minimize unnecessary late-night movements, and ensure that homes, shops, and business premises are securely locked. Residents are also encouraged to report suspicious activities or persons to the nearest police station and collaborate with the police to enhance community security.
Additionally, the Command warned against reckless driving, speeding, drunk driving, and traffic rule violations, advising motorists to service their vehicles regularly and avoid night journeys when possible. The public is also cautioned against online fraud schemes, fake job offers, and identity theft, which often increase during the festive season.
However, the Command emphasized that criminal activities will not be tolerated during the ember months, and offenders will face full force of the law and called for collective effort between the police and the communities to ensure a safe and secure festive season for all.
