ICPC Strengthens Partnership with Lagos State Government to Promote Grassroots Integrity

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reaffirmed its dedication to fostering integrity at the local government level through a courtesy visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Rural Development.
According to a statement issued by ICPC Spokesperson John Okor Odey, Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner (RACC) Mr Alexander Chukwurah emphasized the Commission's strategic approach, focusing on stakeholder engagement, with local government systems being a key priority due to their proximity to the community.
Mr Chukwurah stressed that prevention is the most effective means of addressing corruption, highlighting the need for sustained engagement and awareness-raising initiatives. He outlined the Commission's Accountability and Corruption Prevention in Local Governments (ACCP-LG) programme, designed to enhance awareness and reinforce integrity mechanisms within local government operations.
"The ICPC's mandates, Enforcement, Prevention, and Public Education, are all aimed at influencing behavioural change," he stated, acknowledging that the Commission's message is "often unpopular as it challenges entrenched norms and traditions." He emphasized that regular interaction with local governments is crucial for mitigating corruption risks and promoting ethical conduct.
In her welcome address, Permanent Secretary Mrs Kikelomo Bolarinwa described ICPC as "a strategic partner and integral to the Ministry's success story," highlighting the Ministry's commitment to accountability and transparency. She expressed readiness for deeper collaboration to sensitize staff across all 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas.
Honourable Commissioner Bolaji Kayode Robert commended the ICPC for prioritizing preventive strategies, noting that grassroots-level sensitization is essential given Lagos State's division into five traditional administrative zones. He assured the Commission of the Ministry's full support to deepen collaboration and expand anti-corruption awareness across all local government structures.
The visit represents a significant milestone in the ICPC's ongoing efforts to forge institutional partnerships that promote integrity, transparency, and accountability at the grassroots level of governance.
