Police Recover Stolen Mercedes-Benz SUV After Fierce Gunfight in Anambra
By Chizoba Njaka
The Anambra State Police Command has successfully recovered a white Mercedes-Benz SUV stolen by armed criminals, following a rapid and coordinated operation that ended in a dramatic gun battle.
According to a statement from the Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, a joint team from the Operations Department Awka, Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu, and Special Anti-Cultism Unit (SPACS) Enugu-Ukwu relentlessly pursued the armed suspects after they attacked a police patrol at Eziowelle along Umuoji Road.
The pursuit intensified when a police convoy, reportedly assigned to Senator Chris Ngige, former Governor of Anambra State and former Minister of Labour and Employment, intercepted the criminals. The combined force engaged the hoodlums in a fierce gunfight, forcing them to abandon the stolen SUV and flee under heavy police pressure.
One police officer sustained a minor gunshot injury but is now stable and receiving medical care. The recovered Mercedes-Benz is securely in police custody as investigations proceed.
Authorities have launched a state-wide manhunt for the fleeing suspects, pledging to bring them to justice. Further updates will be shared as the story develops.
