Anambra Police Command Clarifies Incident Involving Journalist

‎By Chizoba Njaka

‎The Anambra State Police Command has released a statement addressing an incident that occurred at the Anambra State House of Assembly facility, in which a journalist was involved.

‎According to the Command's Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the officers on duty were adhering to established security protocols by verifying the individual's identity and confirming the legitimacy of their invitation to the facility. This standard procedure is designed to ensure the safety and security of the premises and personnel, and is not intended to be punitive in nature.

‎The Command has explained that a comment made during the incident was a situational statement, prompted by an unsatisfactory explanation provided to the officers. However, the matter has since been resolved amicably.

‎Further inquiries have revealed that the individual who extended an invitation to the journalist is not a member of the Anambra State House of Assembly, nor is he a staff member of the institution. Rather, he was also present at the facility as an invitee.

‎The Anambra State Police Command reiterates its commitment to fostering a professional and cordial relationship with members of the press, acknowledging the vital role they play in promoting public safety and accountability.
