ICPC Denies Invading Amnesty Office, Clarifies Face-Off Occurred at IHS Towers

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has debunked a viral media report alleging that its officers invaded the office of Amnesty International in Abuja on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
In a statement issued in Abuja by ICPC Spokesperson Mr. Okor Odey, the anti-corruption agency described the report as "false and misleading," warning that it could incite tension and mischief.
The Commission clarified that its operatives were on a lawful assignment at the IHS Regional Office located at No. 6, Dar es Salaam Street, Wuse II, Abuja, not Amnesty International's premises.
According to the statement, ICPC officers had earlier visited the IHS facility to deliver official correspondence but were obstructed by the company's Chief Security Officer (CSO) and other security personnel, who forcefully escorted them out.
It noted that the obstruction prompted the ICPC to obtain a search warrant in full compliance with the law, leading to the subsequent face-off at the IHS office.
ICPC emphasized that it operates as a "responsible, law-abiding agency" and demands full cooperation from individuals and organizations during its statutory duties. The Commission vowed not to tolerate any obstruction of its officers.
The statement also noted that Mr. Saidu Abdullahi, Director of Regulatory Affairs at IHS Towers, issued a written apology to the ICPC on behalf of the company. He described the incident as "unfortunate and regrettable," promising to address lapses by the CSO and security personnel to prevent future occurrences.
ICPC urged the public to disregard the misleading publication entirely, reaffirming its commitment to professionalism, integrity, and adherence to the rule of law.
