Anambra Police Condemn Lilu Church Attack, Vow to Bring Perpetrators to Justice

The Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has strongly condemned the violent attack that occurred on the morning of December 7, 2025, at a church in Lilu, Ihiala Local Government Area. The armed assault tragically claimed one life, seriously injured several others, and caused partial destruction to the church building alongside other properties.
In an official statement released to journalists in Awka by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu, CP Orutugu described the attack as a horrific violation against innocent worshippers and a direct challenge to the community's peace, the sanctity of life, and freedom of worship.
Expressing deepest condolences to the victims’ families and the Lilu community, the Commissioner assured the public that the police are fully committed to tracking down those responsible. He emphasized that such acts of brutality will not be tolerated, and the command is determined to prevent any threats to peace and stability.
The police have intensified intelligence-led operations, deployed a Joint Security Team, and increased surveillance throughout the area. Authorities are vigorously pursuing all leads and have pledged to utilize every available resource to ensure the culprits face justice.
Residents are urged to remain calm and assist security efforts by providing any useful information that may aid the ongoing investigation. The Anambra Police Command remains resolute in safeguarding lives and property across Ihiala and the entire state.
