Anambra Police Crack Down on Unauthorized Use of Security Uniforms

The Anambra State Police Command has introduced new measures to enhance public safety and address the growing concern of unauthorized use of security agency uniforms in the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, announced the initiative today 9 December 2025, in Awka, citing security assessments that revealed individuals impersonating police and other security personnel have been engaging in criminal activities, intimidating citizens, and evading lawful checks.
The directives require security personnel to carry proper identification while on duty. CP Orutugu emphasized that possession, sale, or use of police or security uniforms without authorization will result in immediate arrest and prosecution, as these uniforms are government property and unauthorized possession constitutes a criminal offense.
CP Orutugu also instructed Divisional Police Officers, tactical units, and patrol teams to increase visible policing and verify identities during operations to identify and apprehend impersonators.
