ICPC Leaders Call for Stronger Accountability in Internal Anti-Corruption Unit

The Chairman and Secretary of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have called on the Commission’s internal Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) to strengthen preventive measures and enhance accountability within its operations.
The call was made during a recent sensitisation workshop held at the ICPC headquarters in Abuja. Representing ICPC Chairman Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, Director Olusegun Adigun urged ACTU members to remain dedicated to upholding integrity and reinforcing the Commission’s internal control systems.
Dr. Aliyu described corruption as a major impediment to national development and framed the workshop as a crucial “call to action,” pledging the Commission’s ongoing support for ACTU’s initiatives.
Supporting this message, ICPC Secretary Barr. Clifford Oparaodu highlighted ACTU’s vital role in promoting transparency and ensuring accountability, particularly through rigorous fact-finding and oversight of internal processes such as staff promotions.
ACTU Chairman Barr. Michael Adesola outlined the Unit’s achievements, including its independent management of the 2025 promotion examination. He also warned staff against any behaviour that could damage the Commission’s reputation and formally requested that ACTU be upgraded from an ad-hoc committee to a full-fledged unit to strengthen its capacity.
Other participants, including Mrs. Azuka Ogugua, Head of Reforms, also contributed to the discussion. The event ended with a renewed commitment from all staff and management to work collaboratively towards building a public service free from corruption.
