Anambra Police Vow to Crush Social Media Misinformation Amid Full Activity Resumption

The Anambra State Police Command has uncovered a deliberate campaign of fear-mongering via social media, aimed at disrupting the state's return to full social, commercial, and official activities on Mondays.
In a statement issued by Police Public Relations Officer SP Tochukwu Ikenga in Awka, the command highlighted recurring coordinated posts spreading misinformation, panic, and bigotry to erode public confidence and peace. Despite this, residents described as vigilant, discerning, and united have resisted divisive narratives through resilience and timely reporting of credible information.
Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu responded swiftly by convening an emergency closed-door security meeting at Police Headquarters, Awka which included all the Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, officers from joint security forces, and a state government security representative.
CP Orutugu ordered immediate ramp-up of intelligence-led patrols, surveillance, and proactive policing to neutralize any threats to lives and property.
The command however reassures Ndi Anambra that robust security measures are in place urging the public to stay calm, law-abiding, and security-conscious; as well as to ignore unverified social media; and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or emergency channels.
Anambra State Police Command reaffirms its commitment to sustaining peace, safety, and protection for all residents and visitors.
