Pharm Uchebo Urges Information Officers to Improve Performance and Take Ownership of Roles

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Pharm. Oby Uchebo, has emphasized the need for civil servants to be familiar with their Scheme of Service, which outlines their job descriptions.
Pharm Uchebo made this statement while addressing information officers in the situation room, Awka, stressing that their primary mandate is to disseminate information on government activities.
She expressed concern over the officers' laxity and warned that she would be monitoring their performance closely, adding that it was unwise to continue to appeal to them to do their job. She commended those who had been putting in effort, despite not being perfect, and announced plans to reshuffle information officers posted to various areas.
In response, the Director, Ministry of Information, Mr. Emmanuel Emmanuel, emphasized the need for a change in attitude and approach to work, stating that training would be a waste if there was no improvement.
Several participants expressed appreciation for the Permanent Secretary's initiatives to advance the ministry's objectives, pledging to enhance their performance despite encountering challenges in accessing essential resources. They also recommended that the ministry provide standby cameras to facilitate high-quality coverage and implement measures to improve staff welfare.
The Permanent Secretary advised staff to take ownership of their work, request necessary tools from their CEOs, and protect their work through their reportage. She encouraged workers to take advantage of health insurance for healthy living and urged them to bring about a change in their attitude to work.
