Good Friday Message: A Call to Unity and Redemption

Residents of Umuokpu-Awka, Anambra State, gathered at St John Church to commemorate Good Friday, with Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Nwakasi, a resident priest delivering a powerful sermon on the significance of the day.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Nwakasi explained that Good Friday is a celebration of God's love and redemption, made possible through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross. He noted that humanity's disobedience to God's commands led to a separation from God, but Jesus' death bridged the gap, reconciling humanity with God.
"The world punished Jesus, thinking they were punishing him, but they were actually fulfilling God's plan for redemption," Rev. Fr. Nwakasi said. "Through his death, God now lives in our hearts, and his death works for God to those who believe."
The priest emphasized that Jesus' death has broken down barriers between people, creating a unified body in Christ. He urged the congregation to love one another, shun discrimination, and strive for unity, citing the scripture, "There is no more gentile or Jew."
Rev. Fr. Nwakasi also reflected on the genealogy of Christ, drawing parallels between Joseph's trials and Christ's suffering. He noted that God's justice is tempered with mercy, and through Christ's atonement, sins are forgiven.
The congregation was encouraged to remain faithful, even in the face of pain and challenges, and to remember that God's love and redemption are available to all.
