The Borno State Office of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has urged officers of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) to uphold the highest standards of integrity, transparency, and accountability in the discharge of their duties.
According to a statement issued on June 20 by the ICPC Head of Media and Public Communications, Okor Odey, the call was made during a one-hour anti-corruption sensitisation lecture and interactive session held at the Customs Command Headquarters in Maiduguri.
Speaking during the programme, the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Borno and Yobe States, Mr Linus Gubbi, described integrity, transparency, and accountability as essential pillars of effective public administration.
Mr. Gubbi stressed that public officers must remain professional and accountable, noting that corruption undermines institutional credibility, weakens public confidence, and hinders national development.
“The fight against corruption is a collective responsibility,” he urging Customs personnel to see themselves as representatives of ethical governance and to support initiatives aimed at promoting transparency and good governance.
Responding on behalf of the Customs Area Controller, A.M. Idris, the command appreciated ICPC for the engagement and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening accountability and transparency in its operations. The controller pledged continued partnership with ICPC on anti-corruption reforms and measures aimed at improving institutional efficiency.
Also speaking, Assistant Chief Superintendent of Customs, Abba Dzikwi, who delivered a paper titled “Enhancing Integrity and Accountability in Customs Operations: Promoting Transparency and Ethical Practices,” emphasized the need for strict compliance with ethical standards, transparent procedures, and reforms across customs operations.
ICPC said the sensitisation programme reflects its continued commitment to strengthening integrity, transparency, and accountability across public institutions in Borno State and beyond, in line with its mandate to prevent corruption and promote ethical governance.
