‎The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has raised alarm over the growing rate of moral decadence and disturbing social incidents, describing the trend as worrisome and a collective challenge that demands urgent action from families, communities, religious bodies, and other stakeholders.

‎CP Orutugu spoke while reacting to the death of a 25-year-old female student found on June 18, 2026, in Onitsha under circumstances suggesting suspected suicide. A note believed to be her suicide message was recovered at the scene, detailing a relationship breakup after three abortions for an unidentified man named Chigozie.

‎While investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident, the CP said the tragedy highlights the urgent need for stronger parental guidance, moral upbringing, and emotional support for young people.

‎He urged parents and guardians to be more involved in their children’s lives by monitoring their emotional well-being, social relationships, and behavioural changes. According to him, many societal problems can be reduced through effective parenting, open communication, and instilling sound moral values.

‎CP Orutugu also called on community leaders, schools, faith-based organizations, and civil society groups to step up advocacy and mentorship programmes that promote positive values, resilience, and responsible living among youths.

‎He has directed that the case be transferred immediately to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Awka, for a thorough and discreet investigation.

‎The Anambra Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property, while working with stakeholders to address emerging social issues threatening public safety and societal well-being.
