The Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue, has unveiled a seven-point mission statement, pledging transparent leadership, accountable representation, and people-oriented legislation if elected to the 11th Senate in 2027.
Addressing constituents across communities, wards, and local government areas within the senatorial district, Ven. Ikezue said his extensive engagements with residents revealed widespread dissatisfaction with political leaders who failed to fulfil their campaign promises. He noted that his background as a cleric and servant of God has enabled him to maintain close contact with the people and gain firsthand insight into their concerns and aspirations.
Drawing inspiration from Proverbs 29:2, which states, “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice,” the Labour Party candidate pledged to pursue leadership founded on integrity, justice, peace, and prosperity rather than transactional politics and personal gain.
Presenting his seven-point mission statement, Ven. Ikezue said a key component of his agenda is the promotion of Christian values and national unity. He disclosed plans to sponsor legislation aimed at fostering harmony among Christian denominations, strengthening moral values, and encouraging integrity and the fear of God in public service and governance.
He also vowed to maintain a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, assuring constituents that public resources, including constituency funds, would be managed with utmost transparency. According to him, kickbacks and financial impropriety would have no place in his administration, while regular public asset declarations would serve as a demonstration of accountability.
On legislative priorities, Ikezue stated that his focus would remain firmly on addressing the needs of Anambra Central through laws and policies that support quality education, accessible healthcare, youth empowerment, infrastructure development, improved security, women's advancement, and pro-poor economic reforms. He further revealed that he has already prepared ten people-centred bills aimed at promoting social equity, wealth redistribution, and protection for vulnerable groups.
The Labour Party candidate pledged to serve as a strong advocate for the people, promising regular town hall meetings, frequent constituency engagements, and sustained communication channels through which residents can directly convey their concerns and expectations.
He also expressed his commitment to drawing national attention to issues affecting traders, entrepreneurs, and ordinary citizens, while strengthening legislative oversight of the executive arm of government. This, he said, would involve rigorous scrutiny of budgets, investigations into Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and public hearings designed to expose corruption, inefficiency, and waste.
Ven. Ikezue further assured constituents that constituency allowances and development funds would be fully directed toward projects and programmes that benefit the people of Anambra Central. Such interventions, he explained, would include empowerment schemes, educational scholarships, healthcare outreach programmes, and the distribution of agricultural inputs to support local farmers.
The candidate also pledged to reject vote-buying and patronage politics, while promoting collaboration among federal, state, and local government institutions to accelerate development. He emphasized his commitment to advancing equity, justice, and national unity by opposing all forms of marginalisation and advocating greater inclusion of youths, women, and persons with disabilities in governance.
On legislative collaboration, Ven. Ikezue stated that he would work across party lines whenever such cooperation serves the public interest. He added that he would actively utilise motions, resolutions, and other parliamentary instruments to facilitate timely government responses during emergencies and periods of national concern.
He further stressed the importance of synergy between the National Assembly and state governments, pledging to maintain a productive working relationship with the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo. According to him, political affiliations should not constitute barriers to cooperation where the welfare and development of Ndi Anambra are concerned.
Ven. Ikezue concluded by reaffirming that the principles outlined in his seven-point mission statement would guide his conduct and service if elected, reiterating his commitment to the biblical ideal that righteous leadership should bring joy, progress, and prosperity to the people.
