Ogidi Homecoming: Ikezue Describes Senatorial Candidacy as ‘Divine Redirection’, Pledges Quality Representation

Labour Party’s Anambra Central senatorial candidate, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue, has described his emergence as the party’s flagbearer as an act of divine intervention, while calling on residents of the district to rally behind his aspiration ahead of the 2027 general election.
Ven. Ikezue made the statement during a homecoming reception organised in Ogidi to commemorate his emergence as the party’s flagbearer in the primary election.
The cleric-turned-politician said he experienced what he termed “the hand of God” throughout the process, describing his emergence as a divine redirection of his journey toward serving the people. The Labour Party candidate, who was recently elevated to the rank of Venerable, stated that he views his return to politics as part of a broader assignment to contribute to public service.
He recalled stepping away from active politics after serving as Personal Assistant to former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, adding that he had no plans to return to the political space until a series of developments, consultations, and appeals from stakeholders prompted him to reconsider.
Reflecting on his political journey, Ven. Ikezue recalled a significant conversation with the late Chief Ikwuka Okoye, former President-General of Ogidi, noting that the encounter further strengthened his determination to pursue the senatorial mandate.
He added that repeated calls from members of the community for the return of the senatorial representation to Ogidi inspired his ambition, describing his candidacy as both a divine calling and a collective effort to ensure effective representation for the district.
In his words, “I saw the hand of God in everything, and it strengthened me to know that God can make a way where there is no way. This mandate is not for me alone; it belongs to the people. Together, we can restore hope and provide quality representation for our district,” Ikezue said.
Community leaders at the event, including the traditional ruler’s Chief of Staff, Engr. Okey Amobi; Youth Wing President, Mr. Chris Obi Okafor; and Chief Anene Ezukama, described Ikezue’s candidacy as a collective “Ogidi project.”
They pledged their commitment to mobilising support across Ogidi and the wider Anambra Central Senatorial District, expressing optimism that his emergence would enhance the district’s representation at the National Assembly and create greater opportunities for development.
