LP Candidate Ikezue Condemns Zamfara Massacre, Urges Tinubu to Act

‎The Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue has condemned the killing of 24 farmers in Zamfara State, calling the attack a national tragedy and urging the Federal Government to take immediate, decisive action to address Nigeria’s escalating security crisis.

‎Speaking to journalists at his campaign office in Awka, Ven. Ikezue expressed profound sorrow over the incident, which left several people injured and many others abducted. He offered sympathies to the victims’ families, describing the deceased as hardworking citizens who went to their farms to earn a living and never returned. “No Nigerian deserves to die simply for trying to feed their family,” he said, praying for the peaceful repose of the dead and comfort for their loved ones.

‎While reports suggest that most of the victims were Christians, Ven. Ikezue urged Nigerians not to interpret the killings from a religious perspective, stressing that every Nigerian life is sacred and deserving of equal protection, regardless of religion, ethnicity, or tribal background.

He condemned banditry and terrorism as common enemies of all Nigerians and blamed failures in the nation’s security architecture for the persistent attacks. “When farmers can no longer cultivate their land, the nation’s food supply is endangered. When innocent citizens are massacred without accountability, public confidence in government is eroded,” he said.

‎Ven. Ikezue called on President Bola Tinubu to authorize a comprehensive military operation to rescue abductees and bring perpetrators to justice. He also urged the National Assembly to summon the Service Chiefs for a public hearing on insecurity in the North-West, and demanded adequate compensation, rehabilitation, and psychosocial support for affected families and communities.

‎To improve rural security, he recommended strengthening and properly regulating community intelligence networks and vigilante groups. Additionally, Ven. Ikezue appealed to churches across Anambra Central to hold three days of prayer and mourning in solidarity with the Zamfara victims and others who have died in violence nationwide, adding that prayer must be paired with sustained demands for accountability and decisive government action.

‎“Every Nigerian life matters. The government must act decisively to end these senseless attacks and restore confidence in the nation’s security,” he said.
