The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has congratulated its National Auditor and Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Assistant Director, Jemila Abubakar, on her election as President of the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA) Nigeria.
In a statement signed by NAWOJ National Chairperson Comrade Aisha Ibrahim, the association described Abubakar’s election as a deserved recognition of her professional excellence, long-standing service and commitment to peacebuilding, gender advocacy and national development.
NAWOJ noted that WAANSA Nigeria is a leading coalition of civil society organisations dedicated to combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons, preventing gun violence, addressing drug abuse, tackling gender‑based violence and promoting peace and security across the country.
The association said it is proud that a member of its National Executive has been entrusted with the leadership of such a strategic body and expressed confidence that Abubakar’s experience and integrity will strengthen WAANSA Nigeria’s advocacy and impact.
NAWOJ also commended members who attended the WAANSA General Assembly and election, led by the National Chairperson, saying the delegation’s presence underscored the association’s commitment to celebrating members’ achievements and deepening partnerships with organisations that advance peace, security and sustainable development. The association however, wished Jemila Abubakar a successful and impactful tenure.
