The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, has charged Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other heads of sections to intensify efforts toward strengthening security and public safety across the state. CP Oji Ama gave the charge on August 11, during his maiden security meeting with strategic officers of the Command.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the meeting provided an opportunity for the commissioner to outline his operational expectations and set clear responsibilities for commanders in their respective areas of jurisdiction. The commissioner emphasised the need for proactive, intelligence-led and community-oriented policing, urging commanders to take full responsibility for security within their areas and ensure the effective deployment of personnel and other operational resources.
He said the performance of strategic officers would be closely assessed, particularly in the areas of traffic management, maintenance of law and order, crime prevention and prompt response to security challenges. CP Oji Ama stressed that commanders must demonstrate effective leadership, visibility and operational control, noting that the prevailing security situation and level of public safety in each jurisdiction would serve as key indicators in evaluating their performance.
The commissioner also introduced awards and commendations for officers who had distinguished themselves through exceptional performance, using the initiative to encourage professionalism, dedication and commitment to duty. While commending deserving personnel, CP Oji Ama warned officers against unprofessional conduct, extortion, abuse of office and other acts capable of eroding public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He reiterated that all personnel must operate strictly within the ambit of the law and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and accountability in the discharge of their duties. The CP further directed commanders to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, community stakeholders and members of the public, stressing that effective policing requires collective responsibility, cooperation and timely sharing of credible intelligence.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by the strategic officers to improve operational efficiency, strengthen traffic management, prevent crime and sustain peace and security across Anambra State.
