World Breastfeeding Week: ANSACA Urges Mothers to Embrace Exclusive Breastfeeding, PMTCT Services

‎By Chizoba Njaka

‎The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) has urged pregnant women and nursing mothers to embrace exclusive breastfeeding and take advantage of Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV (PMTCT) services to protect the health of mothers and their babies.

‎The call was made during activities marking the 2026 World Breastfeeding Week at the Maternal and Child Healthcare Clinic, Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

‎During an interaction with pregnant women and nursing mothers at the facility, the agency emphasised the importance of exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of a baby's life, noting that breast milk provides infants with essential nutrients and a healthy start.

‎The mothers were also educated on HIV prevention and the importance of early antenatal care, consistent treatment and proper medical guidance for women living with HIV.

‎The agency noted that women living with HIV can give birth to healthy, HIV-free babies when they access antenatal services early, adhere to prescribed treatment and follow appropriate medical advice.

‎ANSACA also expressed appreciation to the Mayor of Idemili North Local Government Area, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, his wife, Lady Eberechukwu Nkwoka, and the Idemili North health team for partnering with the agency in promoting maternal and child health.

‎The agency further commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, for providing free antenatal and delivery services, describing the initiative as a significant support to mothers and families across the state.

‎ANSACA reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote healthy mothers, healthy babies and a healthier Anambra State.
