Ikezue Calls for Salary Review, Welfare Packages for All Security Operatives

‎By Chizoba Njaka

‎The Labour Party (LP) Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Government for the recent upward review of salaries and allowances for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Ven. Ikezue described the salary increase as a recognition of the sacrifices, risks and dedication of military personnel in defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity and national security.

‎In a statement issued on Monday, August 10, 2026, by his Director of Media and Communication, Comrade Uche Kalu, Ven. Ikezue urged the Federal Government to extend the salary increase to personnel of all security agencies across the country.

He specifically advocated similar upward reviews for officers and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other sister security agencies. According to him, personnel of these agencies perform equally critical roles in maintaining internal security, intelligence gathering, protecting critical national assets and safeguarding citizens.

Ven. Ikezue said improved and equitable remuneration would help boost the morale of security personnel, enhance operational efficiency and reduce the temptation for corruption, while ensuring that those who risk their lives for the country are treated with fairness and dignity.

‎He also urged the Federal Government to establish special welfare packages for the children of serving and retired military and security personnel.

‎Among the measures, he proposed preferential consideration for eligible beneficiaries in government employment and recruitment into security agencies, full educational scholarships covering secondary and tertiary education, as well as priority access to government-sponsored skills acquisition programmes, starter packs and empowerment initiatives for those interested in vocational and technical training.

‎The LP candidate said such measures would reward the sacrifices of security personnel, reduce the burden on their families and provide better opportunities for their children. He added that improved welfare for security personnel and their families would inspire greater commitment to national service and strengthen the country’s overall security architecture.

‎Ven. Ikezue expressed confidence that the Tinubu administration would give the recommendations urgent consideration as part of efforts to promote national security and improve the welfare of those protecting the nation.
