Labour Party candidate for the Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Lady Mary Ifeoma Obiokoye, has called for greater empowerment and representation of women in governance and community development.
Lady Obiokoye made the call on Friday, August 7, 2026, while participating in the 2026 August Women’s Meetings held in various communities across Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The Labour Party candidate joined women in worship and fellowship at St. Francis Catholic Church, Abagana; St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Abba; St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Abba; and the Enugwu-Ukwu Women August Meeting at Obu Umu Nri.
Addressing the women during the meetings, Lady Obiokoye described the August Meeting as an important tradition that promotes prayer, unity, faith and community development, while commending women for their continued role in sustaining families and communities. She also listened to concerns raised by the women, particularly on healthcare, education, market support, security and economic empowerment.
According to her, empowering women would have a direct impact on families and the wider society. “Our women are the custodians of our homes, our faith, and our values. When we empower our women, we empower our entire constituency,” she said.
Lady Obiokoye assured the women that, if elected to the National Assembly, she would provide people-oriented representation and advocate policies that would positively impact mothers, widows and young women. She further said the Labour Party remained committed to its ideals of “Rescue, Results and Representation,” promising to make her representation service-driven and responsive to the needs of the constituents.
The Labour Party candidate commended the parish priests, vicars and women leaders for their warm reception and effective organisation of the various August Meetings and reaffirmed her commitment to working with religious and community institutions towards building a constituency where women and other vulnerable groups would receive greater attention and opportunities. She prayed for continued strength, wisdom and provision for women across the constituency
