Police Arrest 49-Year-Old Armed Robbery Suspect, Recover Pump-Action Gun, 50 Cartridges in Anambra

Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, have arrested a 49-year-old suspected armed robber, Chima Ogumba, and recovered a pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges from him. The suspect was arrested on the morning of August 17, along Nkpor Road in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement issued to journalists in Awka on August 18 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the operatives stormed the identified area and conducted a search on Ogumba. The search led to the recovery of one pump-action firearm and 50 live cartridges. The suspect, however, was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation for his possession of the firearm and ammunition.
The commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, ordered a thorough investigation into the suspect to determine his possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities. The investigation will also establish the source of the recovered firearm and ammunition, as well as their intended use.
CP Oji Ama reiterated the command's commitment to intelligence-led operations, proactive policing, targeted patrols and sustained tactical interventions aimed at identifying, disrupting and dismantling criminal networks across the state.
