‎The Anambra Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) is set to host its 2026 Sports Week from August 20 to 21, with a focus on promoting peace, unity and economic empowerment through sports.
‎
‎The two-day event, themed “Sports for Peace and Economic Empowerment,” will take place at the Cosmilla Hotels Sports Arena, beginning at 3:00 p.m. each day.
‎
‎According to the programme, the Sports Week will feature a range of sporting and recreational activities, including five-a-side football, table tennis, draught and ludo.
‎
‎The event is expected to bring together sports writers, athletes, sports enthusiasts and other stakeholders, providing an avenue for interaction, healthy competition and the promotion of sports excellence in the state.
‎
‎The organisers have identified the Anambra State Police Command, Anambra State Football Association (ANSFA), Awka All Stars Football Club and Demila Gold Ice as partners for the event.
‎
‎The 2026 SWAN Sports Week is being organised under the association’s broader commitment to using sports as a platform for fostering peace, strengthening social connections and creating opportunities for economic empowerment. The event carries the slogan: “Uniting Sports Writers, Promoting Sports Excellence!”
