‎Security operatives attached to the Joint Operation Base, Aguata, have intercepted two vehicles and arrested nine suspects during a stop-and-search operation at Isuofia in Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

‎

The operation, conducted in the early hours of Aug. 28, was led by the Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP Austin Elaigwu, in collaboration with personnel from the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigeria Immigration Service and operatives of the Agunechemba Security Outfit.

‎

‎According to the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the security team intercepted two vehicles a custom-coloured Sienna and an ash-coloured Toyota RAV4 at the checkpoint. The operation resulted in the arrest of nine suspects comprising seven males and two females.

‎

‎A search of the vehicles reportedly led to the recovery of three AK-47 rifles, one pump-action gun, charms and other items considered relevant to the ongoing investigation. The suspects, alongside the recovered items, were subsequently taken into custody for questioning and further investigation.

‎

‎During preliminary interrogation, the suspects reportedly claimed that they were security operatives operating in a neighbouring state. However, the police said they could not provide satisfactory explanations concerning their identities, affiliations, possession of the firearms or the purpose of their movement into Anambra State.

‎

‎Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, commended the operatives for their efforts and urged them to sustain their vigilance.

‎

‎The commissioner noted that the recovery demonstrated the importance of intelligence-led policing and effective stop-and-search operations in preventing criminal activities and strengthening security across the state.
