Supporters of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), including women and members of the Youth Force Movement (YFM), on September 30, took to the streets in a show of support for the party’s candidate for the Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency in the 2027 House of Representatives election, Barr. Prince Chukwudi Oli.
The rally, which drew a large crowd of APGA supporters and residents, featured a procession from Enugwu-Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area to Agukwu Nri, Oli’s hometown in Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State. The exercise was aimed at creating awareness about his candidacy and strengthening grassroots mobilisation ahead of the election.
Oli, a legal practitioner, property developer and politician, is seeking to represent the constituency on the APGA platform. He emerged as the party’s candidate after securing victory in its House of Representatives primary for the constituency with 10,566 votes.
Speaking on his plans for the constituency, Oli said his legislative agenda would focus on sponsoring strategic bills and policies aimed at tackling challenges such as erosion, infrastructure deficits, youth empowerment and healthcare.
He said he would also pursue the institutionalisation of a one-year tools and skills training programme under the DNA framework to provide young people with practical skills, encourage entrepreneurship and contribute to efforts to reduce criminality among youths.
The APGA candidate further proposed the construction and donation of a permanent constituency office to the DNA constituency. According to him, the initiative would provide future representatives with office facilities and reduce the burden of providing such infrastructure personally.
On youth participation in elections, Oli said he would mobilise young people to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), while encouraging them to reject vote buying and make electoral choices based on policies, particularly issues concerning energy and the cost of utilities.
One of his supporters, Mrs. Njoku Chinecherem, described Oli as a serious-minded and reliable individual, saying she had personally benefited from his support. She described him as a man who keeps his word and called on the people of Anambra to support his candidacy, expressing confidence that he would serve the constituency effectively if elected.
Another supporter, Mrs. Ngozi Okonkwo, described Oli as a “brother” and expressed happiness that a “son of the land” was contesting the election on the APGA platform. She prayed for his success and expressed hope that he would eventually emerge as the representative of the people in the Federal House.
Also speaking, Muhamed Ibrahim, an Hausa Okada rider resident in Nri, said Oli had demonstrated concern for both indigenes and non-indigenes in the area. He described the APGA candidate as someone capable of serving the people if elected.
The rally comes amid increased political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties and candidates intensify consultations, grassroots mobilisation and engagements with constituents.
Oli has previously said his ambition is focused on strengthening federal representation and deploying legislative responsibilities to address challenges affecting the people of Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha. He has also expressed plans to promote sustainable entrepreneurship and community-based representation if elected.
