Anambra Bye-Election: Police Caution Against Misinformation and Incitement

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Godwin Eze, in his capacity as Supervising Officer for the Anambra Bye-elections, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups against disseminating false election results, circulating outdated footage, or making inflammatory statements that could potentially mislead the public and compromise peace during the ongoing electoral process.
According to a statement issued in Awka by the Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Nigeria Police Force and sister security agencies reaffirm their commitment to providing robust security measures to ensure a peaceful, free, and credible electoral process in Anambra State.
AIG Eze warned that individuals found to be spreading misinformation or engaging in behavior that could disrupt public peace will be dealt with in accordance with the law, facing its full consequences.
The Police boss urged the public, particularly media practitioners and social media users, to verify information from credible sources before sharing to prevent the spread of misinformation. Citizens were also advised to remain law-abiding, cooperate with security personnel, and avoid actions that could compromise the integrity of the electoral process.
