Police Rescue Man from High-Tension Pole in Suicide Attempt

The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued a 28-year-old man, Okwudili David Onyiba, who attempted to commit suicide by climbing a high-tension pole behind Grace of God Mission, off NEPA Road, Awada, on September 2, 2025.
According to the Anambra Police Public Relation Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed that upon receiving the distress call, operatives from the Awada Division promptly responded, securing the area and managing the crowd. Following a brief period of persuasion, the individual safely descended and was taken into protective custody.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has however, directed that Okwudili undergo proper medical and mental health evaluation. CP Orutugu assured that it will provide necessary support to ensure his well-being.
The command also urged members of the public to seek lawful and peaceful solutions to personal challenges and reach out to family, friends, or support groups in times of distress.
