Anambra’s Monarch Celebrates 100 Years Amid Praises for Leadership, Cultural Preservation

The Commissioner for Environment, Engr. Felix Odimegwu, has lauded the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Onyeneke Orizu III, as he celebrates a remarkable milestone of 100 years of age and 62 years on the throne.
In an interview at his office in Awka, Engr. Odimegwu described the Igwe as a beacon of wisdom, unity, and leadership, whose reign has brought peace and development to the Nnewi kingdom.
The commissioner highlighted that Igwe Orizu’s six-decade rule is rare and notable for its stability, lack of internal conflicts, and enduring respect among the people. Known as "Igwe na eje Uka" for his Christian faith, the monarch is praised for his uprightness and ability to uphold tradition while steering his community toward progress.
Odimegwu shared personal reflections on the Igwe’s influence, noting his longstanding relationship with the royal family and the monarch’s role as a father figure and advisor in the community.
In his words, "He is a symbol of unity, and having stayed on the throne for 62 years without disruption is no small feat,". He hopes the Igwe’s legacy will continue to be alive and encourages other traditional rulers to emulate his example of integrity and cultural preservation.
The commissioner emphasized that the Igwe’s leadership has reinforced the cultural heritage of Nnewi, maintaining customs and traditions that are studied in history books and passed on faithfully to future generations. This continuity, Odimegwu remarked, guarantees that Nnewi's rich cultural identity remains intact.
