Police Clarify Ekwusigo Fire Incident, Debunk Armed Group Rumors

The Anambra State Police Command has issued a statement clarifying that a fire incident in Ekwusigo Local Government Area on November 21, 2025, was the result of a motor vehicle collision and not an attack by an armed group, as misinformation circulating on social media suggested.
According to a press release from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the accident occurred when a tanker truck carrying fuel collided with a Toyota Corolla car, causing the tanker to ignite and resulting in the destruction of both vehicles and several nearby shops adding that a tricycle was also engulfed in the fire, leading to the death of the rider.
The Police Command has also initiated an investigation to identify the drivers involved and take necessary actions adding that the Command has condemned the attempts to exploit the incident to incite panic and unrest in the state.
Also, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has directed a comprehensive investigation into the social media reports with the aim of identifying and taking action against individuals responsible for disseminating false information.
The Command however remains steadfast in its commitment to providing accurate information, safeguarding public safety, and curbing the spread of misinformation, it's stated.
