Anambra Police Arrest Suspect for Criminal Impersonation, Unlawful Possession of 2026 JAMB Materials

Operatives of the Inspector-General of Police’s Safe School Initiative attached to the Anambra State Police Command, in the early hours of 14th April 2026, arrested one male suspect, Eric Nwombu, for alleged criminal impersonation and unlawful possession of Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination materials. Items recovered from the suspect include eight (8) JAMB examination slips and an exercise book containing names and examination numbers of candidates, for which he could not provide a satisfactory explanation.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was arrested following a report that he was collecting 2026 JAMB examination slips from candidates who had visited a cyber café in Atani to confirm their examination centres.
Upon interrogation by personnel of the computer centre, the suspect allegedly represented himself as the JAMB 2026 Coordinator for Atani. Finding his explanation unsatisfactory and his conduct suspicious, the staff thereupon notified police operatives within the vicinity. Upon observing the approach of the operatives, the suspect attempted to abscond but was promptly apprehended.
Preliminary investigation has been initiated, and the matter shall subsequently be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of public examinations. He further enjoins members of the public to remain vigilant and to promptly report all suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
